Nate’s Philosophy
There is no greater feeling than discovery. To learn is to discover the wonders of the universe and expand the limits of the human imagination.
Too often, learning is seen only as ticking off syllabus points and memorising information without any meaning behind it. When tutoring, I teach the way I learn: deeply and purposefully. Memory aids, exam technique and study skills are balanced with discussions of context, the ‘why’ behind the topics we explore and the relevance they have on the real world. By focussing on uncovering the fundamental principles guiding a subject, learning mathematics and physics involve much less memorisation and more common sense and critical thinking.
More than anything else, I aim to inspire a genuine love of learning in my students.

Work Experience
-
2024 - Present
Whilst conducting my research at the ANU Mathematical Sciences Institute, I run weekly workshops in the ANU flagship first year honours-track subjects MATH1115 and MATH1116. In this role I:
Provide student feedback on weekly assignments
Mark student assignments according to clarity and technique
Provide regular consultation hours prior to workshops
Additionally, I am a teaching assistant for the subject ODE (Ordinary Differential Equations) which is co-taught between ANU and Shandong University in China as part of the Joint International Science College (JISC).
-
2020 - Present
I have been tutoring secondary level mathematics and physics since my first year of university back in 2020 and continue to love tutoring. I am always learning more about how I can guide students towards their own discoveries. I also gain a new perspective on mathematics and physics for every student I tutor!
-
2022-2023
I have two years of experience tutoring university level mathematics and physics at one of the University of Melbourne’s residential colleges.
The University of Melbourne subjects I have tutored are:
Calculus 1
Calculus 2
Linear Algebra
Linear Algebra: Advanced
Accelerated Mathematics 1 (linear algebra and calculus)
Physics 1 (mechanics, gravitation, special relativity)
Physics 1: Advanced
Physics 2 (electromagnetism, thermodynamics, quantum physics)
Accelerated Mathematics 2 (calculus and real analysis)
Differential Equations
From the Solar System to the Cosmos
In addition, I have provided private tutoring for the following RMIT subject:
Numerical Methods and Statistics for Engineers (numerical methods for linear algebra, ODEs, solving nonlinear equations)
-
2022
In my third year of undergraduate studies at the University of Melbourne, I was a residential advisor at St Hilda’s college. This involved supporting the wellbeing of university students and assisting in their transition to university.
-
2020
I began tutoring as soon as I left high school. In my first role, I learnt how to adapt learning materials to the specific needs of students. Though I tutored mathematics and English, I would later specialise in mathematics and physics, due to my complementary university studies in these areas and my personal passion for them.
